Special Olympics 7A Side Football Tournement part two.
Four days in a list.
Thursday (one tends to miss in days when one is extremely tired)
- ...
- Two persons of the delegation were sick and got replaced. The sick ones were the ones who spoke English rather good. They got replaced by the non-English speaking kind.
- Luckily for me there was one person left who spoke understandable English and understood all the words I said to him. The coaches understood some of the things I said and the teachers of the ladies only spoke and understood nothing but Hungarian.
- The hotel was in the French speaking part of Belgium. Very difficult two switch between languages all the time ("Frenglish is not a language.", D.E.B.S.)
Friday
- got up at six o'clock.
- breakfast
- My Hungarian delegation delays the whole get-on-bus-in-order-to-get-to-the-tourne ment whilst my "English" friend is gone to a meeting. I track my ladies down and explain them with everything I got, including my feet, that they have to get going.
- Luckily for me the Danish delegation is even slower than mine.
- We arrive at the tournament.
- The tournament has a delay of 30 minutes.
- We play the divisioning games. We end up in group A.
- My team plays very good together.
- Ireland is everyone's favourite team to win the competition.
- packed lunches. No vegi food in it.
- I'm hungry.
- We visit Kortrijk with a guide.
- The guide speaks posh English.
- My "English" friend is very impressed with Kortrijk.
- The girls are very tired. They slow everything down. They are bored shitless.
- Luckily for me the Polish team whom we paired up with are even more tired.
- Opening ceremony is very breath taking. Nice fireworks. Nice ass of the professional Belgian female Red Devil. :-D
- BBQ. My delegation ignores my repeated request to remain seated and rush to the tables piled with food before they turn. I tried to stop them but one against 15 is no match.
- I talk to my "English" friend and tell them that they can't be late tomorrow and that the next time they need to listen to me when I say something.
- I am surprised that I had the guts to speak my mind.
Saturday
- My team is the first on the bus.
- The girls are all very sweet and we try to communicate with each other. "English friend" is very welcome!!
- Somehow we talked about photography. They ask me to take some pictures of the Hungarian team on the field.
- We win our first match with 6-1.
- They are supposed to follow some healthy athlete program but the coach want them to rest between matches.
- I persuade him to let his athletes to do the program. I promise him they can quit the program half an hour earlier to do some warm up.
- The program can't be done in half an hour.
- I make sure they can follow the program, but after the second match and their other obligations.
- No vegi food in the packed lunch. It contains a sandwich with crab. Not that hungry as yesterday.
- Second macth against Ireland. 1-1 In the last minute Ireland scores a beautiful goal. Dammit! :-)
- "English" friend checks my pictures and promise me to get them printed in a Hungarian magazine.
- First healthy athlete program is a disaster as "English" friend and the coaches decide to leave me and the teachers alone so they can go and see the other matches. The program contains a check up. A girl has a muscle strain and the doctors want to help her but she panics and starts to cry thinking she can't play soccer ever again.
- Second program is very funny because it contains a lot of questions about their feet and some tips to get rid of the smell, how to take care of blisters and so and so on. A lot of drawings were made. And we all laughed a lot.
- dinner in a restaurant. No vegi food for me.
- I talk to the responsible. Wahey I'm my assertive self again.
- I ate a delicious vegi meal.
- Whilst waiting on the bus I learn a Hungarian song and we learn eachother some dance moves.
- On the bus I lead a question/answer song.
Sunday
- The coach lets me know his team is very nervous.
- He wants me to sing the song from the bus to prep his team for the match.
- They win their match.
- healthy athlete program without any troubles for a change. :-)
- No vegi food in the packed lunch.
- I am hungry.
- I sing the song again.
- We win the match.
- And the tournament.
- closing ceremony on the field
- closing ceremony in the "hallen". When they call the volunteers to the stage the Hungarian team starts to chant my name.
- I am very happy with my team. They are all good friends on and off the field of one another.
- And they all are my friends.
- BBQ. Yep again. No vegi food. I eat a lot of vegetables.
- There is no option to change their track suits to disco clothes.
- They were talking about their dico clothes since I mentioned there would be a disco night two days ago.
- "English" friend informed me earlier they brought their best clothes with to go to the dico.
- I stalked the responsibles.
- I stalked and stalked.
- Asked and pleaded.
- They had permission to leave the BBQ 15 minutes earlier and change their clothes in the bus.
- The disco was great! I danced with everyone and everyone danced with me.

Monday
- The team left to visit Brussels.
- I joined them on the busride.
- Quick goodbye because the bus was double parked.
- It was better that way. Less tears.
- I miss them more than I can say.
General
- Thanks sweetie to come and look to the game on Saturday and Sunday. And for taking pictures when I joined the ceremony.
- They apologized for the drawing. :-)
- The organisation was still crap. Things got forgotten, they contradicted each other all the time.
- I hope they learn from their mistakes.
- I miss my delegation a lot.
- They gave me a clock because I was always rushing them. :-D
- They gave me a t-shirt with all their names on it and an invitation to visit them in Hungary.
- "Hungry Hungarians" is an understatement.
- They made me their eleventh player.
- The coach asked me to write the song down to use it again.
- I got a textmessage to thank me for my kindness.
- I think I did alright.
- I thought I was going to be crap.
- oh and... Lacky barat mindig!
